What is travel insurance?
Travel insurance is a type of insurance designed to protect you from unexpected events and expenses that can occur while travelling, whether you're going abroad or staying within your own country. It typically covers a range of situations, including medical emergencies, trip cancellations or interruptions, lost or delayed baggage, travel delays, and accidental death or dismemberment.
In many countries, healthcare for non-residents can be very expensive, and some visas even require proof of insurance. Having travel insurance means you can travel with peace of mind, knowing that you are financially protected against unforeseen circumstances. This allows you to enjoy your trip without the worry of unexpected costs or emergencies.
Types of travel insurance
There are different types of travel insurance depending on how and where you travel:
Single-trip travel insurance
Perfect for one-off holidays, business trips, or visa applications. This type of insurance covers you from the moment you leave Thailand until you return.
Domestic travel insurance
Provides protection for trips within Thailand, including accident cover, medical expenses, and travel disruptions like delays or cancellations.

Travel insurance for your Schengen visa application
If you are planning to visit Europe, many Schengen countries require travellers to have valid travel insurance as part of the visa application process. This insurance must include medical coverage of at least €30,000 (approximately THB 1,500,000), along with emergency medical evacuation and repatriation.
Roojai’s travel insurance is fully compliant with Schengen visa requirements and makes your application process easier and faster:
- An insurance policy document is issued instantly and can be used for visa submission.
- Coverage is valid across all Schengen member states.
- All plans include emergency medical treatment, evacuation, and repatriation benefits that meet or exceed Schengen standards.
Even if you don’t require a visa to travel around Europe, getting travel insurance with sufficient coverage is still highly recommended to ensure peace of mind.

How is my travel insurance premium determined?
Your travel insurance premium is based on a few key factors that help us match you with the right level of coverage:
- Type of trip: No matter if it’s a holiday, business trip, or to study abroad, we tailor the plan to your needs.
- Destination: Different countries have different medical costs and risks, so your destination affects your coverage level.
- Travel companions: If you’re travelling solo or as a group, we take that into account when recommending a plan.
- Travel method: How you’re getting there (e.g. flying, driving, sailing) can influence your risk level and coverage options.
- Trip duration: The length of your trip directly affects your premium; longer trips generally require more coverage.
- Visa requirements: If you’re applying for a visa, we’ll recommend a plan that meets embassy medical coverage requirements.
Once you share your trip details, we calculate your premium instantly and recommend the most suitable plan, with the right protection at the right price.
Can I buy travel insurance if I’ve already left Thailand?
No, our travel insurance plans must be purchased before your departure. We recommend securing your policy at least two hours before your departure.
Do I get a refund if my visa application is rejected?
Yes, you are entitled to a full refund if your visa application is rejected. To process the refund, you must submit a copy of your insurance policy and passport, as well as the official visa rejection letter issued by the embassy or consulate. Note that you must provide the documents before the policy start date.
